The Facebook group set up for colourised Boer War photos seems to have attracted some of the thickest and most fanatical True Believers, so one is guaranteed a good deal of self-pitying nonsense from them. Recently, this photo was posted:
To a normal person, this is just a fairly run-of-the-mill photo of Lord Kitchener… but Defenders of the Myth are not normal people. Instead, an especially stupid True Believer mindlessly swung into action to post this:
Well, goodness me – has Nico managed to finally find cast iron proof that Lord Kitchener was, wait for it, a Nazi? Sure, the Boer War ended 18 years before the Nazi Party was formed, and Kitchener himself had been dead for four years by then… but he’s wearing a black arm band! I mean, what other proof could any brainlessly fanatical True Believer possibly need!?
In the wacky world inhabited by poor old, intergalactically thick Nico, there are bone fide Nazis absolutely everywhere:
And – with devastating insightfulness – Nico has revealed that it’s not just the British army that’s full of them, they are also to be found playing soccer:
England’s ladies too, apparently:
And there are at least two in the South African cricket team:
My God, and the Indian team too:
And even Irish rugby players are in on it, Nico:
Just when I think I have discovered the stupidest True Believer of them all, yet another pops up to challenge for that dubious honour, and entertain me still further.

BWCP has become the cesspit for the great uneducated and most ignorant of the ABW sites with their Admin (if they have any) allowing and encouraging all and any posts of utter nonsense, lies , myths and pure fantasy in this case.
Ah, but think of the comedy they provide!
Have to agree
I was recently cancelled on this site after just one day.
When I messaged the FB site owner To ask why, he informed me that I show disrespect to decedents as I always want to justify the scorched earth policy and always want to prove that it was the Boers own doing it happened and I Always want to discredit the Boers and Afrikaners.
He then informed me that this page is not a place to show disrespect and zero sympathy to what happened to his ancestors
The last comment is actually laughable as his Forum is quite worrying as it’s just full of anti English/British hate and is full of ‘one way’ disrespect.and is just a Boer Echo chamber and clearly there is no place on it for an alternative view.
I only joined the Site to enjoy the colourised photographs, which stupidly I thought was the purpose of the Forum?
Kind regards Scottie
I guess he realises that posting colourised photos isn’t terribly interesting after a while. Perhaps he figured that the only way he can maintain any level of interest is to play to the peanut gallery, and turn his page into an echo chamber for myth-loving morons.
Completely agree. There was a recent post about the laying down of rifles at Winburg and one idiot called for the slaughter of British in the Cape and that Buller should have been hung and fed to the Zulus.
I have mentioned before that in June 2018 Admin posted some guidance on submitting posts, the usual stuff, ie that hate speech and insults would not be tolerated and that the perpetrators would be banned.
I have emailed Tinus to find out why he is not following his own guidelines. I let you know if I receive a reply.
It makes one wonder what, in their crazed minds, General Buller did wrong? Do they seriously consider the fact that he saved Natal from a Boer invasion to have been ‘a war crime’? Or are they just bitter that he thwarted Kruger’s dreams of capturing Durban, and then (after a couple of false starts) drove the invaders back over the border?
Very amusing Chris, for some reason that particular Boer War colourising page and its administrator have become somewhat unhinged lately and he’s been booting off very accredited historians for challenging some of the stuff been posted on his site. Maybe he’s pandering to the emotional triggers of a specific audience for his new book – who knows, it does not bode well for his accreditation. What I do know is this, amusing as it is, there is however a case for a real comparison to be made with armbands used by Afrikaner nationalists and those used by the Nazi – and some of it has a Boer War root. So I took the opportunity to blog about it on my own media, hope you don’t mind – here’s the link: https://samilhistory.com/2024/06/26/talking-armbands/
I heard from Tinus today. He said that he has blocked about 100 people so far. He also said that it is impossible for him to check the content of all the posts as has a business to run. In which case why does he have these rules on the Admin page about hate speech etc?
Nonetheless he asked me to send him the details of the person who made the egregious post I mentioned earlier and he would arrange for him to be blocked. So I have done.
And why does he keep revving up the hoi polloi by posting pictures taken in Concentration Camps (photos invariably depicting clean and orderly camps, and well-fed / well-dressed residents), and then giving them inflammatory and ghoulish captions?
And why does he block anyone who dares challenge Apartheid-era myths about the camps?
Quite, I suspect that he is pandering to his Afrikaans commentators and the fact that he has a business to run has no bearing on his will to block individuals. I have had enough of the site and will be viewing it less, if at all, in future.
In my view, one of the best sites is “Carvings from the Veldt” on YouTube. Hosted by Dave George, English speaking ex SADF now living in Australia. His videos provide an excellent history of the war, told through carvings on rifles. As I recall, no anti British slant, as he is of British descent anyway.
