‘Send forth the best ye breed…’

I was recently sent this photo of Canadian troops mustering Vancouver, prior to mobilising to South Africa in the wake of Kruger’s crackpot invasions of Imperial territory:



Stanley Park is in the background, and the loyalty and respect displayed by the crowds of patriotic well-wishers is obvious. Also note that the contingent are in their dress uniforms, and (despite what the Defenders of the Myths would like you to believe) certainly would not have worn those in action.
